COSOMA, MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, MUANA AND BPAM are coming together on Wednesday, 24th November, 2021 to launch textbooks that have been written, published and printed locally under the support from Kopinor in Norway. The launch is taking place at Mndunje Community Day Secondary School, in Dowa from 9:00am and the Minister of Education Honourable Agness NyaLonje will preside over the event.

The School Book Development Project commenced in 2017 with an aim of developing a local vibrant textbook writing and publishing industry. Publishers engaged authors (members of MUANA) who were trained and guided by the Malawi Institute of Education. The project which has run in two phases has produced 16 book titles in Agriculture, Chichewa, English, Geography and History, from which 70,630 copies have been printed and will be distributed freely in 70 community day secondary schools across the country on a 1:1 ratio basis.

The Project Manager of the School Book Development Project explained to the Deputy Headteacher of the host school that the textbooks are meant to supplement the titles already in the curriculum as directed by the ministry of education. On the other hand, the Deputy Headteacher, Mr. Jafali Wilson was all smiles that his school had been picked as one of the beneficiaries.

MUANA has unendingly thanked Kopinor for the timely support for its authors to significantly improve their knowledge and skills. As a plus, the book development project has gave birth to an author-publisher agreement/contract which will guide all book publishing now, an improvement from haphazard arrangements that were guiding the industry before the contract.
